How can I ensure the safe burning of candles?
This is an excellent question! Here are some tips to help you burn candles safely:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it within sight at all times.
- Avoid burning candles near flammable objects such as loose papers, fabric, bedding, books, drapes, flowers, or decorations. Ensure that the candle has enough clear space around it.
- Keep lit candles away from drafts such as open windows, air conditioners, vents, or fans.
- Ensure that the candles are kept out of reach of children and pets.
- If the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly, extinguish it immediately, and trim the wick. Before re-lighting, check for any drafts.
- Blow out the candle right away if there's any possibility of dozing off to sleep.
- Ensure that the flame has died out completely and the smoke has cleared before replacing the topper lid. Avoid extinguishing the flame by covering it with the lid since it will trap the smoke inside the container and affect the candle's scent.
- If you've created a large wax pool during burning, blow it out gently to avoid wax splattering.
What do I do if my wood wick flame isn’t staying lit?
If your wood wick isn’t staying lit, it could mean that your wick is either too long or short. To achieve an optimal burn, it is necessary to trim your wick. The simplest method involves using your fingers to remove the charred portion on the top or utilizing a small tool such as a wick trimmer or nail clipper. It is essential to consistently trim your candle's wick to guarantee a clean and steady burn. We suggest keeping the wick's length at 1/8”.
Why is my flame too big or smoking?
Not trimming the wood wick or extended burning can cause high flame and black smoke. To eliminate this issue, trim the wick to 1/8 inch before each use. Trimming the wick not only promotes environmental safety but also enhances the candle's longevity.
What causes the bumpy and rough surface on my candle after burning?
An uneven surface is the best indicator that your candle is composed of 100% natural wax. Soy wax frequently creates bumpy surfaces when cooling at varying rates. Therefore, your candle's surface may dry out unevenly at times while at other times it will be smooth. The reassuring aspect is that this phenomenon is natural and does not impact your candle's performance.
My candle appears to be sweating, what should I do?
If you notice beads or small oil build-up on top of your candle, the wax may be sweating. Sweating is common in 100% natural soy wax blend candles and indicates that the product is entirely natural. Soy wax is sensitive to extreme temperature changes, which can cause the natural oils to separate from the wax, resulting in pools of oil on top.
Sweating does not affect the quality of your candle, and you can remove the excess oil by wiping it off with a tissue. To prevent sweating in the future, ensure that you keep your candles away from drafts, direct sunlight, and rooms with varying temperatures.
How can I up-cycle my candle jars?
We love upcycling at Bevy & Beyna! To remove the left over wax on the bottom of the jar and clean your candle jars, start by pouring boiling water in the glass jar. Let it sit and cool down. The wax will melt and as it cools down, wax will form a block and float on top of the water. Remove and discard the wax. Wash the jar with soap and water and if you want to remove the label, use hair dryer. Be creative in up-cycling your beautiful glass jars.
Are your candles eco-friendly?
In our candles, we use 100% natural coconut soy wax, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood wicks and recyclable glass jars. All of our packaging materials are recyclable. Our packaging contains biodegradable peanuts and water-activated tape. We solely use plastic materials for our adhesive wick stickers and warning label stickers, but we are continuously seeking more eco-friendly alternatives for these components.
